The Kenosha Common Markets, Inc. Board of Directors voted to discontinue the WestoshaMarket effective immediately at the close of today’s market event.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was determined that the market was not a viable venture for the remainder of the season. Given the natural break during the Kenosha County Fair, board members agreed that the timing was most appropriate for the cancellation.
“The Kenosha County Fairgrounds is an ideal location for a farmer's market – and in the future, it could be home to a market again. We are grateful to Fair Director, Denise Zirbel, and the Kenosha County Fair Board of Directors for the opportunity to try out their beautiful venue, as well as to the vendors and customers who joined us at our market days,” shares Melanie Hovey, Secretary/Treasurer of Kenosha Common Markets, Inc. “Our goal is always to create superior markets that are both beneficial for customers and lucrative for vendors. WestoshaMarket was just a little ahead of its time trying to operate in this remote rural location.”
The Kenosha Common Markets organization is still busy, though. Kenosha HarborMarket continues to grow, the Market Moola program (which offers matching funds to SNAP/EBT participants) has been a great success, and projects related to the possible future Kenosha Public Market continue to be explored.
